HONOR 50: the difference of "AI" and "NIGHT" mode for photos in the dark
Let's see in this comparison which function is better and where artificial intelligence is fundamental
In the autumn-winter period it gets dark early and it would be a shame to miss some "wow" shots with the last lights of the sun, a reflection of a street lamp or the Christmas lights. HONOR smartphones can help us thanks to the artificial intelligence and software optimizations on our phones: in this post we will compare AI (Artificial Intelligence) and Night mode.
Let's start with a click and shoot at dusk, free hand, without thinking about the composition or taking care of the exposure: although the artificial intelligence was deactivated, already HONOR 50 has a good basis for photos in low light.
Photo comparison between "AI-Night" and "NIGHT" of HONOR 50
In the following photos, the first shot (with watermark) is obtained with AI activated recognizing the Night scenario, while the second shot (without watermark) is with Night mode. There are two different shooting modes: the AI recognizes the scenario and adjusts the times, ISO and exposure accordingly to avoid burning the lights; the Night mode performs a succession of acquisitions over a 4-second period of time (and it is not a long continuous exposure of 4 seconds) in order to increase details and sharpness.

The same square in Florence viewed to the roof of the shop: the first photo is in Wide mode (ultrawide) while the second with the Night mode does not allow the ultra-wide angle.

In this shot with trees and plants, the AI recognized the "Plants" and not "Night" scenario.
Conclusions
I am pleasantly surprised by the high quality of the final jpeg file obtained by HONOR 50 in such poor or difficult light conditions: from the outset the whole set of optics, sensor and processing software allow to obtain an image much more than acceptable. When HONOR 50's AI comes into play, the final file is one level higher in color and definition. With "AI-Notte" we have freehand photos ready to use, without having to think about the tripod or the remote shutter to avoid blur due to a long exposure. Using the "Night" mode, however, in my opinion, the image acquires more definition and the bright points do not go to "burn" but are more point-like with the star effect.
Another difference I noticed is in the colors: the "Night" mode tends to have a colder toning while with "AI-Night" you get photos with warmer colors (tending to yellow). As for the sky, I prefer the deep black of the "Night" mode.
