In an interview a few days ago, HONOR CEO Mr George Zhao stated, in contrast to the main competitors, that HONOR will not collaborate with the main manufacturers of camera lenses.
Collaborating with photo brands is just a "trick" according to the CEO of HONOR; Allusion to Xiaomi-Leica, live-Zeiss, OPPO-Hasselblad
In this moment Huawei no longer collaborates with Leica, which recently collaborated with Xiaomi, starting with the Xiaomi 12S series. Then we have the vivo-Zeiss tandem, after both Sony and Nokia had Zeiss / Carl Zeiss-branded phones. Then there is OPPO / OnePlus with Hasselblad. If Zeiss offers lenses, filters, lens films, Hasselblad rather comes with color profiles and proprietary technology. Leica also comes with filters and lenses in the equation, after many years of collaboration with Huawei.
George Zhao believes that the user will not necessarily get something extra in the case of such a collaboration, but only a logo on the phone. This is despite the fact that many were happy to hear that Nikon or Canon were partnering with a phone manufacturer and there were rumors that Samsung would work with Olympus for an S22 Ultra / S23 Ultra. Here is Zhao's quote:
"Co-branding between phone and camera manufacturers is just a gimmick. We need to avoid short-term interests. It is no longer possible to anticipate consumer needs when others have the technology and we have it too. Innovation, experience and services. they are the essence and the core. "
What do you think? Do you think HONOR is right?
