You’ve probably heard about this already, but recently WhatsApp warned its users about the change in their data privacy policy. Some of us accepted it gently without knowing the facts. Let’s dive right into it and start a discussion!

New data privacy policies allow Facebook-owned companies to access WhatsApp data.
This sparked questions about user data privacy and people started looking for alternative messaging apps. Telegram was the most famous alternative, but after Elon Musk's recommendation, Signal entered the...let’s say: chat! Today, I’d like to offer you a closer look to what’s the best chat app of these 3. Which one gives you the best privacy options etc.
In the image below, you can see the main differences and similarities between these three apps so you can choose the one that suits you the best.

Let's shed some more light on the security of these apps individually:
End-to-end encryption (E2E), introduced in 2016 on WhatsApp, is available on every communication mode activated by the application, be it groups, voice chats or videos. This WhatsApps E2E protocol is developed by Open Whisper Systems which is open source. and considered one of the best end-to-end encryption protocols for instant messaging, but which is behind Signal. Your communications with your contacts cannot be read by a third party. The backup that is stored in Google Drive is not encrypted by WhatsApp and therefore this model has been heavily criticized.
TELEGRAM
Telegram also supports the E2E protocol, but this feature is not enabled by default in all possible communication options. Only secret chats benefit from end-to-end encryption, so you will need to enable it if you want to use this feature. Additionally, Telegram's desktop client does not support E2E encryption on any platform other than macOS. Telegram does support two-step verification, allowing you to set a password that will be required every time you log into your account from a new device, in addition to the code you receive in the SMS.
SIGNAL
Signal also supports end-to-end encryption with the same E2E Open Whisper Systems protocol, but it fixes all the black spots that WhatsApp has. All communication modes (groups, video and voice call) are encrypted as well as the metadata. By default, Signal encrypts all local files with a 4-digit passphrase. Lastly, there is 2FA and an option to block screenshots in the app. You can lock Signal with a password or biometric data.
It's really hard to make a choice since, if your family and friends all use WhatsApp like me, there's no point in changing your messaging system, right? But at the same time you want to protect your privacy.
What do you think of these three messaging apps?
Are you thinking of changing your messaging app in order to preserve your privacy?
Are you using another messaging app?
