我的荣耀 开启荣耀之旅
Good Morning all, Today and tomorrow sees the Quarter-Final stage of EURO2020(1) with England still in with a shout of reaching their first Euro Semi final since 1996.
Before I talk about it though, a quick word of the rest of the draw. Switserland - Spain Switzerland meet Spain in St. Petersburg which promises to be an intriguing affair. Spain were expected, as the form team of their group before the Euros, to waltz to the QF but have struggled with Croatia nearly pulling off the upset, only falling apart in Extra Time. Meanwhile Switzerland saw off the might of France on Penalties in the last 16. I predict a Spain win, but only just. Prediction: Switzerland 1 – 2 Spain Belgium - Italy In the other match tonight, 2 of the teams playing the best football in the tournament meet. Both can’t go through. Belgium have been unbeaten all tournament and haven’t lost a match yet. Portgual ran them close in the last 16 but the quality of the Belgian side shone through. Italy likewise, haven’t dropped a point, but required Extra Time to see off Austria. Going to again be close, but I think Italy have more quality. Prediction: Belgium 0 – 1 Italy Czech Republic - Denmark Onto Saturday. The other side of the draw, and the match earlier in the day will determine England’s (hopefully) opponents in the Semi-Final. Denmark have been a team renewed in this tournament after the events of their first group game. All neutrals will be cheering them on and it goes without saying to wish Eriksen a speedy recovery. Up against them are an underrated Czech side who taught Netherlands a lesson in the last 16. My heart says Denmark, my head says Czech Republic. Prediction: Czech Republic 1 – 1 Denmark (AET, Penalties won by Denmark). England - Ukraine So, we’re onto the main event. 8pm BST in Rome on Saturday 3rd July. England vs Ukraine. England are the only team who haven’t conceded a goal in the tournament. While criticism may be levelled about the slower, measured play - and up to 75 minutes against Germany, that looked to be costing us – we still impressed with quality goals from Sterling and Kane. Failing that, we have the likes of Sancho, Rashford and Calvert-Lewin for backup if we need. This is against a Ukraine side who qualified 3rd in their group, met a below par Sweden, and by all rights, should pose less a danger than Germany. Easy! Right? Right? Not at these Euros. We have seen titans fall to hubris and lofty expectations while underdogs plug away, and anyone who underestimates this weekend will be quickly shown the door by a Ukraine side who won’t go silently into the night. Southgate will need to keep the players from planning their next 3 chess moves while not settled in their upcoming one and patience, discipline, and clinical finishing will be needed. If we want the box office matches in the Semi and the Final, this is a stern test. That all said, when in Rome? I think our support needs to be loud, proud, and help bring our team through. Prediction: Ukraine 0 – 2 England. What about you all though? Is it coming home or are Ukraine going to take inspiration of how Croatia bested us to break English hearts, again?
