Honor recently launched the new Honor Play in China. This is the company’s try at making a budget gaming smartphone. Made for gaming smartphones are starting to become a thing. Razer announced the gaming-focused Razer Phone last year, Xiaomi came out with the Black Shark, and more recently, Asus unveiled the ROG Phone.
Now, unlike Razer and Asus, Huawei doesn’t really have any background in the gaming world. However, the company wants to give its users a powerful smartphone that can play the latest games without any problems, but one that isn’t very expensive.
There isn’t anything really unique with the new Honor Play smartphone. It doesn’t have a 120Hz display like the Razer Phone, or RGB lighting and vapour chamber cooling system as seen on the Asus ROG Phone. You do get a few software tweaks here and there to give users a smooth gaming experience. Nevertheless, let us look at some of the best features of this phone.
1. Hardware & Processor :
Huawei has packed in their latest Kirin 970 processor inside the Honor Play, giving it a very good processor to start with. This is coupled with up to 6GB of RAM for smooth performance. Only 64GB of storage is available though, which is not really that big of a deal as a microSD slot allows up to 256GB of storage.

2. GPU Turbo Technology :
The Honor Play features a software enhancement called “GPU Turbo” technology, which will apparently overclock the GPU to provide stable frame-rates throughout the game. Now, overclocking something will obviously lead to more heat generation, so we are not sure if that’s going to be a problem here.

3. 4D Gaming :
The Play also integrates 4D gaming which is made possible with help of real-time scene detection that vibrates the device accordingly for various possibilities. Honor also claims to have included a new type of haptic feedback for in-game actions such as explosions, gunfire, collisions, etc. Known as “4D” haptic feedback, you will apparently feel the vibrations when you play.

4. Huawei Histen 3D Sound :
Gaming requires good sound as well. Therefore, Honor has included it’s Histen audio tech in the phone that will provide realistic 3D game sounds with 7.1 channel virtualization. That sounds good, doesn’t it?

5. Notch Display :
Finally, a good large display is also key when it comes to gaming phones. The Honor Play gets a 6.3-inch Full HD+ display with a 19:9 aspect ratio and a 'notch'. We’re not really sure about the inclusion of a ‘notch’ here, as it may be a problem while gaming.

6. Design & Build Quality :
It’s a combination of Metal and Plastic here, both elements came together to form this sleek looking beauty. It sports two antenna lines as well, there’s one on top and another at the bottom corner. There’s a rear fingerprint scanner if you’re too shy to show your face. They remind us of what we saw on the P20, being vertically placed with the LED flash underneath. It measures 7.5mm in thickness and weighs 176g.

7. Software & Skin :
The phone ships with the EMUI 8.2 which is based on Android 8.1. there are plenty of features and customization options to choose from. There are many display settings, smart features, you can choose between different navigation ways and so on. In general, the phone feels very fast and smooth all the time, very good overall performance.

8. Bigger Display :
This device was built around a massive 6.3-inch FHD+ IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen. This is perfect for big screen lovers, it has a sharp resolution of 1080 x 2340 pixels with 409 pixel per inch density. The screen also ditches out a 19:9 aspect ratio and stretches up to 83% screen to body ratio.

9. Camera :
The dual 16MP + 2MP camera has f/2.2 + f/2.4 aperture respectively. The cameras has scene recognition for over 500 scenes and it’s powered by the NPU, Kirin’s AI core. Other features include phase detection autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, touch focus, face detection, HDR and panorama. While the AI powered 16MP selfie shooter has f/2.0 aperture, 2.0µm pixel size and selfie enhancements.

10. Battery :
Powering the Huawei Honor Play is a 3750mAh non-removable Li-Po battery with fast charging technology. With the fast charging feature, charging the battery from 0% to 100% shouldn’t take up to 1.8 hours.

It will available in Black, Blue, and Violet colour options.
