The camera of HONOR 8X still has some really cool AI lens features. The portrait mode and the bokeh effect are outstanding things I noticed on the device. However, the bokeh effect is still a bit defective. For example, it blurs out your hair when the lighting condition isn't very good.
While we can't compare the camera capabilities of HONOR 8X with those on Pixel 3 XL or Galaxy Note 9 or even the iPhone XS Max, the camera of HONOR 8X still performed well even in low light.
Videos recorded using the device are great and the skin tone is fantastic. One of the disappointments about the video is that it can't record 4K resolution ones and it doesn't have an Optical Image Stabilization (OIS).
Considering the fact that handsets like Redmi 3 Pro comes with nearly the same price tag range while still offering a little bit more of features might make you think twice about owning this smartphone.
Nevertheless, if you still don't mind the camera's video shaking any time you're recording or moving around, then the camera shouldn't be a problem.
There is also a slow motion capability which can help you record videos in 480 pixels to grab details. The slow motion feature is great, but when compared to Galaxy Note 9, which has an OIS and brightened Super AMOLED display and costs much more, you shouldn't expect too much.
The handset's battery is really great and consistent. With a full charge in the morning, I took the device and headed out.
I took quite a few pictures and then I took videos of passersby. At noon, the phone was already in the 60% range. This is normal considering the fact that I never let the phone rest. At some point, I could feel the warmth of the phone body when I was listening to music and playing PUBG at the same time.
The gameplay was really smooth while running other things in the background. The phone is equipped with Huawei's HiSilicon Kirin 710 SoC, which is a little inferior to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680.
The number of applications and software I downloaded and installed during my run weren't that much. Only six. An avid smartphone user who spends all his time on the device might have a very different experience.
Apart from this, HONOR 8X comes with a massive 3750mAh Li-Po battery.
Activities like streaming videos on YouTube or SoundCloud were smooth and the Internet connectivity was great. HONOR 8X is not as powerful as HONOR Play, which has a bigger RAM (6GB) and a more powerful SoC (Kirin 980). Thus, there were certainly some little unnoticeable lags.
