The other side of the device sees the volume button and power button. At the bottom of the phone, there are the single speaker, 3.5mm headphone jack and Micro USB port.
To be honest, this is a turn-off for me because modern smartphones (or smartphones made in 2018) mostly come with USB Type-C, especially from a renowned brand like HONOR. Also, there is no fast charging, which is a bit disappointing. And the glass back doesn't have wireless charging capability.
When comparing the design of HONOR 8X with Huawei Nova 3i, which is a little bit more expensive, you'll find that they both feature the same premium look. The difference is that Nova 3i has quad AI cameras and a wider notch on the front display. But HONOR really did a good job in making a device that looks so beautiful, which at least is a great selling point.
One other thing that amazed me is the extremely thin bottom chin. The device has a screen to body ratio of 91%, which is not very common on Android smartphones.
Even Mate 20 Pro, which is a high-end phone, has a big chin. But Huawei placed the fingerprint scanner there. In my opinion, this is not a clever move considering the fact that most Android users are used to touching their fingerprint scanner using their index finger.
As far as the big chin is concerned, another big surprise is the Google Pixel 3 XL. It has a really big jaw that houses the device's speaker. But I don't think it's really necessary. After all, it's just a smartphone.
But HONOR 8X just feels like iPhone XS Max, which also has a 6.5-inch display. Overall, the design is really outstanding and well-engineered. This is a smartphone with a design that can go on for about 2 years without losing out on beauty or fading away in looks.
HONOR 8X has three AI-enabled cameras. They are really great even in low light. Surprisingly, the handset offers a 20MP primary lens with an f/1.8 aperture along with a 2MP secondary camera lens. It also features a 16MP front facing camera, which is really good for selfies.
When I was going over the camera specifications of the device, I realized that it doesn't support the Huawei QMoji AR feature. I'm not totally fine with this.
QMoji is the equivalent of Animoji found on Apple's iPhone X. The QMoji app allows you to create a 3D animated emoji of yourself that you can send to your friends later. This feature is available on Huawei Nova 3i. Surprisingly, it's not on HONOR phones.
