Bluetooth issues with Honor 9X lite

I have just taken possession of a new Honor 9X lite having previously had an Honor 9 lite and I have a problem using 2 bluetooth connections at the same time (something that was fine with the Honor 9). Problem outline as follows:
I have an Honor Band 5 connected to my mobile
I connect to Bluetooth headphones to listen to music while I take a walk
- The Health app on my phone doesn't allow me to press 'play' on the exercise start screen.
- If I close the app and relaunch, it does allow me to press play to start the exercise session but the session does not sync with my Band
If I try it the other way round (i.e. start the exercise session first then connect my Bluetooth headphones), the speakers connect but the exercise session on the Band 'hangs' (doesn't increase steps etc.) and eventually drops out.
As I have said, I didn't have this problem with the Honor 9 lite.
Does anyone have any idea what may be causing this? Apart from this issue, I really like the device!
