Magic 6 pro whatsapp video call bad quality (software issue?)

I just received my Honor Magic 6 pro yesterday. Overall the phone is good, the front camera is slightly too wide angle and warps the face as well as it has too much smoothing and low contrast but that's kinda OK (slight disappointment) .
Today I had a video call on the phone on whatsapp and the quality of the image on my end was just horrible. I tried it with several people, all whatsapp settings were fine and everyone told me the image is very bad, I also got some screenshots from them to confirm it. I compared it to my old phone from 2020 and it was way worse on video calls, my wife's s24 ultra was on another plane entirely. Similar issue on tiktok when opening selfie camera as well. This makes me want to return the phone unfortunately. Is there going to be an update for this issue?
