Designed with Environmental
Awareness in Mind
HONOR has been printing product packages and user manuals with eco-friendly soy ink. Compared to non-renewable traditional petroleum-based ink, using soy ink has reduced carbon dioxide emissions by 68 tonnes, which is equivalent to the volume of carbon dioxide that can be absorbed by 3,778 trees in a single year.

Removing Toxic Substances from HONOR Devices
HONOR has gone one step ahead to prohibit the use of six potentially harmful substances that have not yet been regulated by laws. HONOR spends hundreds of millions of RMB annually in this process to minimize the potential environmental impact. This has been implemented in all HONOR mobile phones, tablets and wearable products, which has eliminated around 2,896 tonnes of potentially harmful substances.

Meeting the Highest Grade of Environment Standards
HONOR strives to reduce the impact of its manufacturing process and business operations on the environment by carrying out life cycle management from the stage of raw materials selection to waste disposal. All HONOR smartphones and tablets have achieved grade A by the China Quality Certification (CQC) Center. In total, 54 products across HONOR’s entire portfolio have obtained this accreditation.

Recycling and Reusing Electronics
An advanced reuse and recycling system can greatly reduce the cost of production while preserving the unnecessary consumption of natural resources. HONOR currently operates an advanced and professional recycling and reuse program in China. Since 2017, HONOR has recycled over 1,650 tonnes of electronic waste from its distribution channels.
Why we choose soy ink?
Compared to traditional petroleum-based ink, soy ink has been widely adopted by many printers of children’s books, as it is safer and more environmentally friendly. It also comes with the following advantages:
Low toxicity
Traditional ink contains volatile organic compounds (VOC) that may cause harm to the health of workers during the process of ink manufacturing, printing, and drying, while also causing damage to the environment. Having soy ink as an alternative can greatly reduce damage to the health of workers and lessen the destructive impact of chemical substances on the planet.
Requires less resources
Traditional ink is mainly produced with non-renewable petroleum resources. Comparatively, soy ink consumes fewer natural resources as it is made from raw and renewable materials.
Renewable
Soy oil is a key ingredient of soy ink. It is a sustainable and biodegradable resource that can help reduce carbon emissions through a circular economy.
HONOR prohibits the use of six toxic substances across its products
The impact of these harmful substances on human beings, other living organisms, and the natural environment as a whole can be dire. As the digital world advances rapidly, more smart devices containing toxic elements are created, bringing more risks to our health and to the environment.
To better promote product recycling, avoid the discharge of toxic substances, and eliminate pollution caused by waste incineration, HONOR has strictly prohibited the use of illegal and harmful elements. These include polyvinyl chloride (PVC), brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, beryllium, phthalates, and antimony trioxide (Sb2O3). HONOR is committed to creating a better tomorrow by lessening the negative impacts to the environment and complying to all global environmental regulations.
HONOR started introducing halogen-and-PVC-free flame-retardant cables in 2014. We worked with multiple suppliers and underwent many trials to find out the right formula to achieve the perfect balance between performance and safety. Today, HONOR has achieved a 100% halogen-free status across the production of charging cables for smartphones and tablets.
We also started to use halogen-free PCBs to assemble safer and more environmentally friendly products. Since 2016, HONOR has invested hundreds of millions of RMB yearly in smartphones, tablets and wearable development to reduce the use of legal but harmful substances, such as brominated and chlorinated flame retardants, PVC, beryllium and its compounds, phthalates, and Sb2O3 proactively.
The China Quality Certification Center examines a product across its entire life cycle, a process that HONOR values greatly. We consider these strict standards at the start, right from the design phase, to produce truly green devices for our consumers.
