There are fewer contacts than there should be after contacts are imported

Problem:

When important contacts from a vCard (.vcf) file or SIM card are imported to a phone/tablet, some contacts are missing.

Cause:

Your phone/tablet will determine whether a contact is duplicate based on its name and other information. If the contact is duplicate, it will be merged and displayed as a single contact. The total number of imported contacts will therefore appear to be fewer than there should be.

Solution:

This is due to the system design and does not indicate an issue with your phone/tablet.
