Phone heats up when a navigation app is running

Problem

The phone heats up when a navigation app is running.

Cause

When using navigation, the phone generates heat not only from real-time downloading of maps and navigation data but also from heavy mobile data transmission. Besides, in areas with poor network coverage or weak signals, the phone increases its transmission power to maintain a stable connection, which causes even more heat. Additionally, direct sunlight can cause the phone to absorb solar radiation and heat up. High temperatures inside the car can further increase this heating effect.

Solution

You can prevent overheating by following these methods:

  • Try to avoid using navigation while charging

Charging causes the phone to heat up, and using navigation while charging can make the device even hotter.

  • Download offline maps and navigation packages in advance to reduce power consumption and heat generation during navigation

Navigation requires real-time downloading of maps or navigation data, which uses mobile data and consumes significant power, potentially causing the device to heat up.

  • Try to avoid using navigation under direct sunlight

If the temperature is high or the phone is exposed to direct sunlight, the initial operating temperature of the phone may rise. At the same time, increased screen brightness can also cause the phone to heat up. To prevent overheating, we recommend placing your phone near the car's air conditioning vent and using a sunshade to block direct sunlight.

  • Appropriately lower the screen brightness or voice broadcast volume

Keeping the screen brightness too high for a long time or having the voice broadcast volume too loud can cause the screen or speaker to heat up. When it does not affect navigation, you can lower the screen brightness or media volume accordingly.

  • Close unnecessary apps running in the background in a timely manner

If many apps are running in the background, it is recommended to close those you do not need.
